MICHAEL WRIGHT

Michael Wright is a passionate naturalist, conservationist and adventurer who loves birding, walking trails and photography.

He is a registered professional in natural science, ecotourism, nature and bird tour guiding, with 20 years of industry experience. He has travelled extensively through Southern Africa and North America, and further to his great passion for birds; he also enjoys golf, animal behaviour, butterflies, herping and trees.

Michael currently holds a Southern African bird lifelist of 624 species, a Southern African mammal lifelist of 93 species, a South African butterfly lifelist of 94 species, and a South African frog lifelist of 30 species.

He has worked in all over Southern Africa and in the United States of America, and has visited Mauritius several times on holiday. During his Southern African adventures, he has travelled through well over 100 National Parks, Game Reserves and Nature Reserves, and to date has stayed in more than 120 lodges, camps, and resorts.

Michael lives in the sunshine of Durban North, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa, with his wife of 14 years. Together they have 2 amazing children, a courageous son and a delightful daughter.

  • Best bird sighting of his career was a successful Buff-breasted Sandpiper mega twitch at Muzi Pan, that required driving over 7hrs in a single day. Best wildlife sighting of his career was witnessing a dominant male leopard steal a hoisted impala kill from a mother leopard and her cub, while guiding private clients at Simbambili Private Game Lodge in the Sabi Sands.
